Austin Cloyd - 18, freshman, a dean's list student in the honors program at Tech, hoped to foster peace in a
troubled world by working for the United Nations.

Brian Bluhm - 25, a grauduate student, a regular at a Bible study group, usually a quiet guy except when watching
a sports event.
Caitlin Hammaren - 19, a sophomore from Westtown, NY, International Stidies and French, sang, member of Kappa
Kappa Gamma, tried to be a friend to everyone.
Daniel Cueva - 21, a junior from Woodbridge, Va., International Studies, accomplished anything he put his mind to, member of
Peru's National Swim Team.
Daniel O'Neil - 22, Lincoln, Rhode Island, graduate student in Environmental Engineeering, played guitar and
wrote his own songs.
Emily Jane Hilscher - 19, Woodville, Va.; freshman, Animal and Poultry Sciences,
Equine Science, loved animals and worked in a veterinarian's office.
Erin Peterson - 18, freshman from Centerville, Va., basketball player in high school, honors French class, kind
and well liked.
G.V. Loganathan - 51, Professor, born in India, Civil and Environmental Engineering professor at Tech since 1982,
adviser to about 75 undergraduate students
Henry Lee - Roanoke, Va.; a Freshman majoring in Computer Engineering and French, enjoyed raquetball and frisbee.
Christopher James Bishop - 35-year-old German professor, born in India, helped oversee and exchange program
with a German Iniversity, Foreign Languages and Literatures
Jarrett Lane - 22, from Narrows, Va.; Senior, Civil Engineering, active in athletics in high school, and played
trombone.
Jeremy Herbstritt - 27 from Bellefonte, Pa., pursuing graduate work in civil engineering, had two undergraduate degrees from
Penn State - one in biochemistry and molecular biology, and another in civil engineering, an xtra nice,
thoughtful person.
Jocelyne Couture-Nowak - French instructor, mother of two daughters, her husband Jerzy is the head of
the horticulture department at Tech.
Juan Ortiz; - 26, from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Graduate Student in Civil Engineering, recently married another
student at VT, played in a salsa band with his father in Puerto Rico
Julia Pryde - graduate student in biological systems engineering from Middleton, NJ., died in an advanced hydrology class along with a professor she much admired G. V. Loganathan.
Kevin Granata - Professor of Engineering and Mechanics, one of top 5 biomechanics
researchers in the USA working on movement dynamics in cerebral palsy.
Lauren McCain - 20, majoring in International Studies, deeply religious, her brother Joel was her hero.
Leslie Sherman - Sophomore, History and International Studies

Liviu Librescu - a 76 year old Professor, born and educated in Romania, an
internationally known Aeronautics Engineer who survived the Holocaust only to
die at the hands of the shooter when he threw his body across the door, telling
the students to get out the only way they could by jumping out the windows.
Mary Karen Reed - 19 freshman from Annandale, Va., born in South Korea into an Air Force family.
Matt La Porte - 20 year old freshman from Dumont, N.J.; University Studies, attending Tech on an Air Force ROTC
scholarship and was a member of the Corps of Cadets, considering a major in political science. He credits Carson
Long Military Institute with turning his life around
Maxine Turner; - Vienna, Va.; Senior, Chemical Engineering, member of Alpha Omega Episilon, among her interest
are Tae Kwan Do and Shakespeare
Michael Pohle, 23, of Flemington, N.J., was a senior majoring in biological sciences and was a member of the
lacrosse team.
Minal Panchal - 26, was a first-year building-science graduate student from India. She wanted to be an architect like her father.
Nichole White - 20, from Hampton Roads, Va., a junior majoring in International Studies in high school she worked as a volunteen taking care of horses.
Partahi Lombantoruan, 34, of Indonesia, was a civil engineering doctoral student. His goal was to teach in
the U.S.
Rachel Hill - 18 year old freshman from Glen Allen, Virginia, studying biology, played the piano.
Reema Samaha - Centreville, Va.; Freshman
Ross Alameddine - Massachusetts, a 20 year old sophomore and English
major who was shot in his French class.
Ryan Clark - from Martinez, Georgia, the RA in West AJ, a senior with triple majors in
psychology, biology and English and a 4.0 GPA, a member of the Marching Virginians
Band, a young man who could put a smile on anyone's face and loves helping children.
Waleed Shaalan, 32, came to the U.S. from Egypt in August to work toward a doctorate in civil engineering.
