The Good Samaritan
This page is for Tracie Lee Dean, a very special lady
with a heart as big as the whole outdoors and the
tenacity of an English Bulldog, and for Elizabeth,
a little three year old girl in dire need of someone
to care about HER.
The day - January 15 - was not so unusual until Tracie
entered a convience store in Southern Alabama. There,
a little girl with a red cowboy hat caught her attention.
The little girl was flittling around the store, approaching
Tracie several times. Once Tracie asked her if her
mommie worked in the store. At that point a man came
over and taking the child by the arm to lead her away,
asked her if she was trying to find a new mommie.
Tracie felt that there was something really wrong with
the situation. She noticed the child's empty eyes - not
the bright, sparkling eyes of a happy child. As they left
the store, she went out and wrote down the license
number of the couple's car. She then called 911 and told
of her suspicions and gave the license number. She was
later told that everything was ok.
Tracie drives back to Atlanta, the nagging thoughts of
the little girl still running through her mind. She KNEW
the child needed help. She made phone calls to John
Walsh, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, and went
online looking for missing children. She finally had
one deputy in Alabama to commit to helping her.
She goes back to the convience store where they watch
the surveliance tape again. The deputy does some
checking and learns that the man is Jack Lee Wiley - a back
on the streets, non-registered sex offender! The woman is
Glenna Fay Marshall. Seems these two "lovelies" travel
around the country selling cheap trinkets and preying on
young children! They pick up young children, do their sex
thing and drop the kids at a hotel or truck stop.
The little girl who had been repeatedly raped, and a
seventeen year old boy who was sodomized for God
knows how long are now in state custody thanks to the
efforts of one very special lady! Thanks and God bless you,
Tracie, for doing what most people would simply regard as
"none of my business".
Thanks also to Gregg, the store manager, who helped
Tracie search the surveillance videos to identify these
people and the little girl. It is amazing that Tracie and
Gregg accomplished in four days what our government
agencies should have done a long time ago!
Wouldn't it be great if every child could have a guardian angel like Tracie!
