This page is for some very special and talented people at the
Landmark, an independent living center for seniors in Stuart, Virginia.
Fern, my roommate from college, is a volunteer there and conducts
occasional creative writing sessions with the residents.
This lovely poem is the outcome of her latest session with these wonderful
residents in preparation for Easter.
EASTER REVELRY
Easter was colorful fun,
Our fondest wish was for sun--
For our Easter egg hunts at grandmother's
And our games with cousins and others.
The Easter bunny hopped around--
He was so happy his feet hardly touched the ground!
Little children made joyful sounds
Each time an Easter egg was found;
Eggs of every hue--
Purple, pink, yellow and blue--
Those Easter baskets overflowed
With all the colors we had to show!
We were so happy because Easter Monday
Would be another day of play!
Mom donned a new Easter bonnet
With dozens of flowers upon it.
Church bells rang out on Easter Sunday
Proclaiming it's Easter Day!
Little girls were dressed in ruffles and frills
Which made it hard to sit still!
Christ gave his life
And endured the strife--
He arose from the tomb
Our hearts to illume.
We know Christ's resurrection assures
The believer's salvation is secure.
We'll win the race
By trusting in the Saviour's grace.
Even though the church is now empty
And the bells are quiet,
Christ remains in our hearts
To never again depart!
