My Christmas Story
~ by Debi Fisher ~
2003

Debi, thank you so much for permission to use your poem
on my site! It is a wonderful reminder of just why we
celebrate the holiday.

As I sat wrapped in lights
trying to decide
is this the burned out one
oh how I tried.

I was fussin' and fumin'
almost forgot the reason
what the true meaning is
of this season.

So I decided to walk
and clear my head
best thing I'sd done
not a step did I dread.

As I walked down the street
I saw a poor cold homeless man
no one, not even I
could understand.

I walked a bit further
and there were sales galore
and one lonely pastor
standing in his church door.

I crossed the small street
said ,"May I please come in?"
He said, "Certainly my child
tis never a sin."

It was awesomely quiet
but the peace I did feel
over shopping and sales
to me did appeal .

I sat oh so quietly
and could feel Him near
and then the reason
was perfectly clear

I stood up to go
and shouted with love
Thank you for showing me
my good Lord above .

I then left in a hurry
passing the store
but not before
some old woman, I held the door

I went up to Sir Homeless
and asked did you eat ?
He simply smiled
with a look of defeat.

So I asked him to follow
and a warm meal I did provide
then I took him to a shelter
and lead him inside.

He said not a word
but as I turned to go
the reason for Christmas
started to flow.

With tears in his eyes
he said "Thank you my lass....
I am homeless and what not
but this too shall pass."

I left him so warm
and that's when I knew
if you pass this on
then like me , you have the spirit too!
