The Dance

© Dennis W. Anderson

Somewhere out there is a man
With way more rhythm than he needs.
A man who has double the ability to dance
'Cause I ain't got none; he took it from me.

Somewhere out there is a man who also
Has more leg muscle than he needs.
Two times the amount of meat on his bones
Leaving me with chicken legs, no butt and a bow to my knees.

So if you want to smile or have a good laugh
Come watch me out on the dance floor some night.
My skinny legs move to the words, not the beat
A one-two step with no lyrics and I'm a frightful sight.

It's been said, "A man's got to know his limitations," and I do.
I won't impress you with rhythmic grace and charm
But there's definitely a song in my heart, and someday I hope
To dance my way right into Your loving arms.

The song is Blessed Assurance and I know all the words
I feel God's presence when I hear its sweet melody.
Its fullness and meaning makes my heart dance with joy
To know I'll be with Him one day in Eternity.

No, it ain't got the beat for a line dance
And it probably won't be heard on MTV
But I pray that one day we'll all move to its rhythm
In perfect peace and joyful harmony.

So, as these skinny legs of mine walk me through this world
Not knowing when the next step I take will be my last.
May God take my hand at that very moment,
And lead me to my Eternal dance.

Happy New Year!!
