I recently received the letter and picture of the "ground breaking"
for the new building to be erected in your honor. I can think of no one who is more deserving!
It seems like not so long ago that I met you for the first time at Mary Washington College when
we both were freshmen and you were our guest for a week while attending the SGA conference on campus.
When I transfered to Radford in my junior year, I would never have thought that you would be
the first person on campus to greet me. You made me feel so very welcome and I am truly happy
to have spent my last two years of undergraduate school at Radford. You have been truly
dedicated to Radford University and the students.
There have been so many great changes at RU since we were students there and I know that you
have certainly played a huge role in many of these changes. I had an opportunity to visit the fine
arts building years ago with Dr. Silverman as my "tour guide" and was tremendously impressed
with the work of the students and the great variety of classes offered. What an improvement over
the small area set aside for the art
classes in Founders Hall when we were students. While my nephew was a student there, we also
had the opportunity to visit the Dedmon Center, Heth Hall, Moffett Hall and several of the other
additions. The lil campus we knew as students has certainly grown by leaps and bounds!
I would like to take this opportuity also to thank you for the interest that you showed when my nephew
Joey was a student there and had a conflict with his class and work schedules. A couple of days
after I called and explained the situation to you, I received a call back to tell me that the
conflict had been resolved and for him to be there for regristration! Thank you so much for your
help in this.
Having spent many years working with students who had drug problems, I especially commend
you for the decision to notify parents when there was a problem with minors drinking at RU. I
found it surprising to learn just how many parents had no clue that their children had such problems.
Here's wishing you the best of health and much happiness in your retirement!
Marilyn
